Buy Local/ Seasonal Calendar

By buying local ingredients, a school can support its community and reduce the amount of energy required to transport the ingredients.  Schools could get its students involved and take trips to local farms or even volunteer.  It is great to know exactly where your food is coming from and how it is grown and produced.

Local does not necessarily mean organic. There is a debate about whether it is better to support organic or to support local. The ideal situation is obviously a local organic farm. But it there is not an organic farm near your school, or even a typical farm, buying organic food is a great option.
