Make sustainable food a subject in your classroom
Integrate the study of food systems into your curriculum. there are endless lessons to be taught in every subject grades K-12.
For example:
- History: potato famine (the dangers of monocultures)
- Math: calculating food miles (carbon footprint)
- Science: bioaccumulation (build up of pesticides in the environment)
- English: Michael Pollan’s The Omnivore’s Dilemma
- Act as Food Club mentor and help lead meetings and plan programs and activities.
- Advocate for the Project Lunch Standards and school food policies amongst the PTA and school administration.
